The Marcus King Band will hit the Haley Toyota music stage at the 7th annual Anthem GO Outside Festival (GO Fest) on Saturday, Oct. 14, thanks to a renewed partnership with the producers of FloydFest. Marcus King, a 21-year old phenom guitarist and blues-rocker, comes to the GO Fest stage after tour stops in New York and at Red Rocks Amphitheatre. He was also recently featured on the cover of Guitar Player magazine.

“Our goal is to offer the public the opportunity to try something new and exciting, experience the outdoors, and make memories with friends that will last a lifetime,” said Patrick Boas, event director and recreation manager at Roanoke’s Department of Parks and Recreation. “With the producers of FloydFest as our partner, we plan to continue leveraging big name music acts, like The Marcus King Band, to showcase the outdoor amenities and overall appeal of the Roanoke Region.”

Raised in Greenville, S.C., King was brought up on the blues, playing shows as a pre-teen sideman with his father – bluesman Marvin King. Eventually the rising star struck out on his own, operating within a fiery brand of American roots music that King calls, “soul-influenced psychedelic southern rock.” The Marcus King Band broadens his sound, touching upon everything from funky R&B to Southern soul, stacking their songs with blasts of swamp brass, a lock-step rhythm section and swirling organ.

Tickets to hear The Marcus King Band average $50 to $100 per person, but GO Fest attendees will get a chance to the band perform for free. In addition to bringing fantastic live music acts to Roanoke, the partnership with Across-the-Way Productions will bring enhanced infrastructure and a VIP side-stage lounge to the entertainment area at GO Fest. The rest of the musical lineup will be announced in late September.

“Across-the-Way Productions and the Anthem Go Outside Festival are really upping the ante in 2017,” said Sam Calhoun, director of marketing at Across-the-Way Productions, Inc. “The stage is bigger than ever at GO Fest and music will be complemented by a performing troupe to entertain in between music acts. It’s all part of the high-end production quality that has become synonymous with the FloydFest brand.”
