It’s Consignment Season at Roanoke Mountain Adventures + 5 Questions with James Revercomb

roanoke outdoor gear consignment

The change of seasons is the ideal time to purge old gear you don’t need anymore … and stock up on a few new items.

The Roanoke Mountain Adventures outdoor gear consignment shop is open. Shop hours are Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. It is located at 806 Wasena Ave. SW.

You can sell gently used, quality gear that you don’t use and maybe find something new to you that will help you get outside.

roanoke outdoor gearConsignment is simple: Bring in your gear and the team at RMA will help you price items for sale. Top selling items include bikes, kids carriers (backpacks), and all kinds of name-brand jackets. You get 62 percent of the sales price (68 percent for items over $300). Sellers have access to an online account to see what items have sold and how much they’ve earned. Payouts come in the form of shop credit or check.

Shopping at RMA is easy, and there are no pushy sales clerks. Walk in browse the selection – it constantly changes – and find gear at about half of retail prices. (This is a great way to test new equipment or start a new outdoor activity.)

“Equipment can be a barrier to entry,” said James Revercomb of Roanoke Mountain Adventures. “But consignment is great if you are just getting started. You can come in and get completely outfitted on a budget.”

And if you really want the warm fuzzies when you drop off that gently used gear for consignment, consider taking advantage of RMA’s charitable program. You can designate that some – or all – of the proceeds go to a participating charitable organization. (And we’re happy to say that the Roanoke Outside Foundation is one of those groups. Thank you, RMA!)

Roanoke Mountain Adventures offers gear rentals to help you get out on the trail or water. The full-service outfitter has guided and self-guided outdoor adventures for mountain biking, road cycling, paddleboarding (SUP), kayaking, tubing, and other activities.
