Fenwick Mines was once an old mining area and is now home to trails and a recreation park. The trail takes you by open pit mines and foundations of old mining structures.
The Fenwick Forest Walk is a 1-mile nature trail. The wetland trail allows you to observe wetlands created by beavers; follow the trail through wetlands and open forests to see a variety of wildlife and vegetation that live in this environment.
The trails are wheelchair accessible. The site has a large picnic shelter, grills, toilets, and a fishing pond. The difficulty of this trail is easy with an elevation of 1,407 ft.
From Roanoke – Take I-581 North towards and take exit 1S to merge on I-81 S towards Salem. Then take Exit 141 and turn left onto VA-419 N. After 0.4 miles, turn right onto VA-311 N. After 19 miles, turn right onto VA-615/Market St. Continue for 5 miles and turn left at SR-611. Next, you will make a right turn onto SR-685 and continue for 1.6 miles. Take a right at Old Jeep Rd, then another right where the road forks. This will bring you to the Fenwick Mines Recreation Area.
